If you have received a NYPD psychological, medical or character/background disqualification, you should appeal. There are two factors that are crucial in your disqualification appeal.  The first is following the appeal process, and the second is the facts of your case.

It is vital that you consult with experts who are experienced in the appeals process. You will need both an attorney and a Mental Health Professional that specialize in disqualification appeals. Attempting to appeal on your own may cause you to miss out on important opportunities to make crucial arguments that could turn the appeal in your favor.

Kevin P. Sheerin is an NYPD psychological disqualification appeals attorney who has been assisting candidates with NYPD Psychological disqualifications for over 20 years. He is experienced in both NYPD NOPD disqualification appeals and NYPD NOD Disqualification cases.

It is important that you consult with a Civil Service Law Attorney to discuss your case.  The most common type of disqualification is psychological.  In the case of disqualifications you will be asked to get a second opinion from an independent psychologist. This psychologist should be trained in appeal pre-employment psychological disqualification appeals.  As an experienced NYPD Disqualifications Appeals Attorney, Kevin Sheerin has successfully handled many cases in which candidates have been diagnosed with a variety of psychological issues.

If you were disqualified for psychological reasons, the first thing you should do is hire an experienced and qualified disqualification appeal lawyer, who thoroughly understands the appeal process and will examine your particular case to determine whether or not you have grounds for a  psychological disqualification appeal. In addition, you will need to hire a Mental Health Professional who will evaluate you and then negate any negative findings reported by the NYPD psychologist. The Law Offices of Kevin P. Sheerin can also assist you with this task, as Mr. Sheerin works with several psychologists who specialize in this area of forensic psychology.

Having been a civil service disqualification appeals attorney for more than 20 years, Kevin has extensive knowledge on how to appeal a NYPD Disqualification. Over the years he has helped many clients win their appeal. He can help you too.

Winning a Psychological Appeal – Mastering the Oral Interview

80 Google Reviews for The Law Firm of Kevin P. Sheerin

Winning a Psychological Appeal – Mastering the Oral Interview: The oral psychological interview is a make-or-break moment in the appeal process. In this post we will provide valuable insights on how to approach and succeed in the interview, ensuring you leave a lasting positive impression.

Candidates should go into their Oral Psychological Evaluation with the expectation that it will be very stressful. This challenging environment is not by accident. In fact, it is done by design. Candidates must realize that they are applying for one of the most important and stressful jobs, with many unforeseen problems that can and will arise, and they MUST be ready, willing and able to handle them in a quick, calm and professional manner. Your Evaluator will be making the determination as to whether or not you are capable of handling the daily challenges Police Officers face, based on many factors, including body language, attitude and your responses to different questions and situations. You must be prepared both physically and mentally for your Oral Psychological Evaluation.

Following, are some basic tips you should keep in mind before, during and after your Evaluation:

You should arrive promptly, dress appropriately, have a good attitude when meeting with your Evaluator (smile, address them by name, speak firmly and clearly, maintain eye contact, extend your hand to offer a firm handshake and when invited to sit, be sure to sit upright, not slouching). Moreover, NEVER let your Evaluator see you frustrated, angry or crying for any reason at any time, as this is all part of the evaluation process to “test” your capabilities for the job. Remember, you are on a job interview, and it is your attitude, body language and responses that are being evaluated. You should present yourself as if you are already a Police Officer if you would like the Evaluator to see you as one. Finally, keep your answers short and sweet, unless your Evaluator requests you to do otherwise.

If you failed your NYPD Psychological Evaluation or have been disqualified for any reason and would like to schedule a free consultation, please contact Kevin Sheerin at 516 248 0040.

Building a Strong Character/Background Appeal

80 Google Reviews for The Law Firm of Kevin P. Sheerin

Building a Strong Character/Background Appeal: Your character and background play a significant role in the appeal process. In this post, we will clarify the NYPD process, guide you through the steps and help you understand NYPD expectations so you can turn potential disqualifiers into assets.

Although the written and physical fitness tests are vital components of the NYPD process, candidates must also pass the following tests:

Candidates must be successful in all three of the above in order to make it through to the next round. Character checks may involve contacting previous employers to determine if a candidate was a good employee who would make a good NYPD team member, as well as determining whether or not a candidate has the ability to demonstrate good judgment and to resist aggression or other inappropriate behaviors.

Candidates will also be screened for drugs and alcohol. The NYPD has a strict drugs policy and candidates will not make it through if they fail a drug or alcohol screening test.

A Glimpse into the NYPD Psychological Re-interview

75+ Google Reviews for the  Law Firm of Kevin P. Sheerin

A Glimpse into the NYPD Psychological Re-interview. Let’s explore how this crucial step can influence the success of your appeal, and learn how you can prepare effectively for the re-interview and demonstrate your suitability for the NYPD Police Officer position.

One of our clients was recently called to a second psychological interview with the NYPD. The interview lasted 3 1/2 hours.

What can you take from this?

Firstly, these interviews and processes are not taken lightly. If that were true, the psychologist would not have spent 3 1/2 hours with the candidate and would not have been that thorough and complete when questioning the candidate who had appealed their disqualification.

Secondly, this is a very serious matter, and the NYPD psychologist wanted to be absolutely sure before approving the candidate.

Lastly, the NYPD is increasing it’s hiring and is looking for candidates to appoint, so they will thoroughly cover every topic of concern in their interviews.

The candidate was successful and was informed by the NYPD that they had passed the interview and would be returned to processing for entry into the Police Academy.

Accordingly, I would recommend that if you receive a disqualification, you seriously consider appealing the psychological interview. As always, it’s not going to get worse, as you are already disqualified. Due to increased hiring and future scheduled police academy classes, the NYPD views candidates who appeal as people with a strong desire to become a Police Officer. When you pursue an appeal, you are letting the NYPD know that you are willing to invest your time and make a case that you are suitable for policing.

As a civil service disqualification appeals attorney with more than 20 years of experience, Kevin Sheerin has extensive knowledge on how to appeal a NYPD Disqualification. Over the years he has helped many clients win their appeal. He can help you too.

If you receive a NOPD or NOD, or have been disqualified for any reason and would like to schedule a free consultation, contact Kevin Sheerin at 516.248.0040.

The Art of Filing an Appeal

The Art of Filing an Appeal: Tips and Best Practices: Diving into the appeal process… Let’s discuss the critical components of a compelling appeal, from gathering evidence to structuring your arguments. Our expertise, tips and best practices will make your appeal stand out.

75+ Google Reviews for the  Law Firm of Kevin P. Sheerin

If you have been Psychologically Disqualified by the NYPD for the position of Police Officer, Correction Officer, Firefighter or any other civil service job, you should begin appealing immediately, as you only have 30 days to start the process.

Although you can Appeal your Disqualification on your own, a more prudent choice is to hire experts in the field who are familiar with the civil service appeals process and who have extensive knowledge and experience appealing Psychological Disqualifications.

Regardless of whether you were psychologically disqualified for anxiety, depression, poor judgment or any other reason, you should start your appeal as soon as possible, so your record does not follow you, raising red flags for anyone viewing them, thereby ruining your chances of securing a civil service job in the future.

In order to appeal your Psychological Disqualification, you will need to hire a Clinical Psychologist who will review your file, have you undergo additional tests and prepare a psychological evaluation on your behalf.

You should also hire an experienced Attorney who will advise you of your rights, review your entire civil service psychological record and prepare you for all the steps and hurdles you will face throughout the appeals process. Your attorney will also work closely with your Psychologist and prepare and file all of your appeals documents. Hiring an expert Attorney and Psychologist will give you the best chance of reversing your disqualification and clearing your name.

If you received a NYPD Psychological Disqualification, but are now confused as to how you should proceed, the following video explains the NYPD psychological disqualification appeal process, and the steps you must follow in order to succeed. It outlines the NYPD psychological Notice of Proposed Disqualification (NOPD) steps, followed by what you should do if you receive a Notice for a 2nd interview. It further explains what you should do if you receive a Notice of Disqualification (NOD), which can be appealed to the NYC Civil Service Commission.

As a civil service disqualification appeals attorney with more than 20 years of experience, Kevin Sheerin has extensive knowledge on how to appeal a NYPD Disqualification. Over the years he has helped many clients win their appeal. He can help you too.

If you failed your NYPD Psychological Evaluation or have been disqualified for any reason and would like to schedule a free consultation, please feel free to contact Kevin Sheerin at 516.248.0040.
