DCAS Notice of Examination and Need to Enter Tasks Performed

New York City’s Department of Administrative Services writes, administers and grades all Civil Service Exams.

A Notice of Examination states the job requirements for a civil service title. A Civil Service job candidate when filling out the application, which is often online, should keep the job requirements in front of them as they fill out the forms.

You must write that you performed the specific tasks listed in the job requirements for at least the minimum amount of time listed for the job. If you are not specific regarding the tasks you performed with the percentage of time you performed them you will be disqualified.

The first appeal is to the Committee on Manifest Errors (CME). You will be allowed to explain that you have the required experience as listed in the Notice of Examination but it still may be “too little, too late”, and you may receive a letter that your next appeal would be to the New York City Civil Service Commission.

You may also want to take a photo of the tasks page as you fill it out just in case of a software glitch.

Failure to write that you performed the tasks listed in the Notice of Examination will result in your disqualification.

NYPD Psychological Disqualification Appeals

What are some of the reasons a candidate can be psychologically (psych) disqualified for the NYPD police officer title or other civil service titles?

If a candidate had an IEP (Individual Education Plan) in school, some of the NYPD psychologists see this as a reason to disqualify a candidate. The NYPD psychologist will ask you to sign an authorization to get your school records. When the records are received they will review them and determine if the issues you had in school will effect your candidacy.

Another reason for a NYPD psychological disqualification is if you took ADHD medicine while in school. Again the NYPD psychologist will request an authorization to obtain your records from school and review them to determine if you should be disqualified on that basis.

Even attending “resource room” services in school could be a factor.

As always the NYPD psychologists decision is not final.

You can appeal by getting an independent psychologist to assist you and by explaining that what happened in school is not your current condition or state. Often candidates have outgrown the need for medicines or their condition has not followed them into adulthood.

As always if you do not take action the disqualification will become final and effect your ability to get other civil service jobs.

If you would like to discuss these issues or if you have received a Notice of Proposed Disqualification or Notice of Disqualification please call me.

As a civil service appeals attorney with more than 18 years of experience, I have helped many NYPD candidates win their appeal. I can help you too.

If you have questions about your disqualification and would like to schedule a free consultation, please feel free to call me at 516 248 0040.

Can an Attorney Help You with a NYPD Notice of Proposed Disqualification (NOPD)?

NYPD's Firearms Training Woefully Inadequate, Former Trainers Say - Gothamist

Can you get an attorney to help you with a Notice of Proposed Disqualification (NOPD) from the NYPD? The simple answer is YES.

The NYPD has recently started interviewing psychologically disqualified NYPD Police Officer candidates after they have received their NOPD and after they have a psychologist submit an expert report on their behalf.

Your chances of being successful increase substantially when you have an attorney prepare you for your upcoming NOPD interview. At times these interviews morph into interrogations and preparation from your attorney can assist you in handling harsh questioning.

No one can criticize you for speaking with someone prior to an oral psychological interview.

I would recommend hiring a civil service attorney from the first disqualification. Your attorney will prepare you, and help you get the best results in your appeal.

I am a successful civil service attorney with more than18 years of experience.  I have many clients who are currently working as NYPD Police Officers because I helped them win their disqualification appeal. I can help you too.
