NYPD Psychological Appeal – 1 Chance to Choose an Expert & Obtain NYPD Records

With more than 18 years of experience as a NYPD disqualification appeals lawyer I have helped many disqualified candidates who have received either a Notice of Proposed Disqualification (NOPD) or a final Notice of Disqualification (NOD) for psychological reasons from the NYPD.

The NOPD letter provides the candidate with an opportunity to select and hire their own psychological expert and have the NYPD psychological file sent to that expert for review and preparation of a rebuttal report. However, in order for the NYPD psychological file to be released, the disqualified candidate MUST first respond to the NOPD.

It is crucial, as a disqualified candidate, that you select a psychologist familiar with the appeals process. ONCE YOU SELECT AN EXPERT TO ASSIST YOU IN YOUR APPEAL YOU WILL MOST LIKELY BE UNABLE TO SWITCH EXPERTS LATER.

Also, selecting a psychologist that you formerly had counseling session with is a poor choice.

I have extensive experience regarding how to appeal a NYPD Disqualification. Over the years I have helped many clients win their appeal. I can help you too.

NYPD NOPD Disqualifications

A Notice of Proposed Disqualification (NOPD) is the first notice you will receive when you are NYPD disqualified.  You have 30 days to respond/appeal to a NOPD.  It is wise to consult with an attorney to protect your rights and make the most compelling arguments to increase your chances of getting a reversal of your NYPD disqualification.

Having been a civil service disqualification appeals attorney for more than 18 years, I have extensive knowledge on how to appeal a NYPD Disqualification. During that time I have helped many clients win their appeal. I can help you too.

If you have questions about your NYPD disqualification and you would like to schedule a free consultation, please contact me at 516 248 0040 to discuss your appeal.

What to Do if You Receive a NYPD Disqualification

We are here to assist you if you receive a NYPD Disqualification

Feel free to call us at 516-248-0040 or email kevin@sheerinlaw.com.

There is a two step appeal process:

The first step in the appeal process is to appeal to the NYPD, who will review your appeal package. In the case of psychological disqualifications you may get a second psychological interview. If you receive a second psychological interview it is best to prepare with an expert.

The next step in the appeal process is the Notice of Disqualification (NOD) which is appealed to the NYC Civil Service Commission. The Commission holds hearings to determine if your disqualification was improper.

When you are disqualified, that disqualification will not be reversed unless you take action. Kevin has been assisting disqualified NYPD, FDNY, DSNY, NYC DOC candidates for more than 18 years. Each appeal is different, just as your history of school, work and personal relationships are different.

Increase Your NYPD Appeal Success at the Second Interview

There has been a sharp increase in the percentage of candidates appealing their NYPD NOPD psychological disqualification, and subsequently succeeding at a second interview.

However, before you can get a second interview you must first appeal your disqualification.

It is imperative that you obtain all of the facts before you act.

I am available if you would like to discuss the facts surrounding your particular situation and the appeal process for NOPD appeals (“step one”). We can also discuss what happened in the oral psychological interview, some tips and tactics, and how to avoid traps in a second interview, as well as the process for filing an appeal with the New York City Civil Service Commission in the event that you do not succeed at step one. We can also go over how to present the best case in order to get a hearing before the commission and how to succeed at that hearing.

REVIEWS FROM CLIENTS AFTER THEIR SECOND INTERVIEW:

April, 2022 – “Kevin helped me get my disqualification reversed! Very professional and knowledgeable. Highly recommended!” –  S.J.

September, 2021 – “Highly recommend for anyone looking to get on after being disqualified!  I first met with Mr. Sheerin in 2017 after being disqualified from the NYPD.  After going through the process of appeal, commission vacated the disqualification. Later on, I began processing on a new exam and met with Mr. Sheerin to prep for the interview. I am glad to say with his help, I was accepted into the most recent police academy for the NYPD! Don’t give up.” – Ashley A.

Reasons You May Receive a NYPD Psychological Disqualification

What you can expect in the NYPD psychological testing process….

The NYPD will give you a written exam consisting of hundreds of questions.  After the examination is scored you will be called to meet with a NYPD Psychological staff member for an oral psychological interview.

You may be asked questions about the answers you gave on the written exam and asked to explain your answers.

You will be questioned about your Educational History, Work History, Driving History, Arrest History (if any), Psychotherapy or medication taken, family and personal relationships as well as other relevant topics.

You will be asked to explain any issues that may arise in connection with any of the above topics.

You may also be asked to provide authorizations for the Psychologist to get documentation from your schools or jobs, which you will have to provide in order to complete the process.

You may receive notice that you have been placed on psychological review.  This review can take some time as other members of the NYPD team review your file.
