NYPD Second Psychological Interview

75+ Google Reviews for the  Law Firm of Kevin P. Sheerin

In 2022, 29 of our clients received a Second Psychological Interview after receiving an NYPD Psychological Disqualification from the NYPD. This is the largest benefit of appealing your disqualification.

Due to resignations and retirements the NYPD is actively pursuing capable candidates for NYPD. Often candidates appear, and in the course of their psychological evaluation reveal something that results in a disqualification. Usually these disqualifications arise due to: taking attention medicine (at any age), attending psychotherapy for counseling (at any age), having some difficulties with academics in high school or college or general problems associated with growing up and maturing into adulthood. Upon receiving a psychological disqualification many candidates talk to friends, family or current Police Officers who will discourage them and tell them appealing is useless.

Quite the contrary, appealing a psychological disqualification and fighting back can lead to a second psychological interview.

My clients will be thoroughly prepared when I receive the whole psychological file and spend time with them preparing for what is to come. We will discuss:

  1. The key issues;
  2. Talk through what was happening at that point in your life;
  3. Speak about what may have caused these issues;
  4. Discuss how to describe those times in the best perspective;
  5. Consider if you have overcome those issues or have persisted, persevered or even thrived after having those problems;
  6. Discuss talking about where you are now.

If you receive an NYPD Psychological disqualification it is worthwhile to appeal. More importantly, you have a good chance of getting a Second Interview which could result in having your disqualification reversed. Feel free to contact me at 516-248-3494 or you can email me at kevin@sheerinlaw.com.

Failed Your NYPD Psychological Review? You Must Appeal or Your Case will be Dismissed

Law Office of Kevin P. Sheerin

 75+ Google Reviews for the  Law Firm of Kevin P. Sheerin

There is some confusion among candidates about whether they must appeal their NYPD psychological Notice of Proposed Disqualification (NOPD). To clarify: YES, you must appeal a psychological disqualification at the NOPD stage or your appeal will be dismissed. The Psychological Assessment section file may only be reviewed by a licensed health care professional. Your only opportunity to have your Psychological Services Assessment section file reviewed during this administrative process will be at this time.

IF YOU DO NOT SUBMIT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BY THE DEADLINES, YOUR PRELIMINARY DETERMINATION OF PSYCHOLOGICAL UNSUITABILITY WILL BECOME FINAL. YOU WILL NOT HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE YOUR FILE REVIEWED BY A LICENSED HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL DURING THE ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESS AND YOU WILL RECEIVE NOTIFICATION THAT YOU HAVE BEEN DISQUALIFIED.

If you try to begin your appeal at the Notice of Disqualification (NOD) stage, the NYPD Legal Bureau will move to dismiss your appeal because you failed to exhaust your administrative remedies and failed to have your psychological file sent to your Mental Health Professional (MHP) at the NOPD stage. Your appeal may be dismissed.

You must hire the RIGHT psychologist to represent you in your NYPD Psychological Disqualification appeal. There are crucial steps you must take and questions you must ask before hiring a Mental Health Care Professional to assist you with your appeal. Kevin Sheerin has been a civil service disqualification appeals attorney for more than 20 years, and knows how to appeal a NYPD Psychological Disqualification. Over the years he has helped many clients win their appeal. He can help you too.
