Crucial to Check Your Email Inbox for NOPD and NOD Notices from NYPD

Candidates may have an overflowing inbox with 25, 50 or 100 emails a day.  If you miss a Notice of Proposed Disqualification (NOPD) email for a NYPD psychological disqualification or a Notice of Disqualification (NOD), and you do not respond within 30 days, your appeal may be dismissed.

Candidates may claim, “I never got it!”, but evidence can be submitted showing the day, date and time the email was sent.

The best advice is to check your email inbox and spam folder very carefully every day, because failure to do so can prevent you from getting appointed to the job, after spending 40-50 hours in applicant processing.

Another tip may be to set up an email filter to have your email provider separate the emails into a separate folder.

Case dismissals are occurring more frequently, and close attention is required to prevent bad results.

NYPD DISQUALIFICATION – ELIGIBLE LIST EXPIRATION – CALL THE DCAS HELPLINE ………. 212-669-1357

IF YOU RECEIVED A NYPD DISQUALIFICATION, CALL THE DCAS HELPLINE AT 212-669-1357 TO FIND OUT WHEN YOUR  ELIGIBLE LIST EXPIRES.

If you are in the hiring process for a New York City Civil Service job, and would like to find out when your eligible list expires:

Dial 212-669-1357
Press 2
Enter your social security number

The DCAS help line will tell you when your list was established and when it will expire. The expiration date is usually 4 years after the list was established or promulgated.

If you received a NYPD Disqualification letter, you will probably need one (1) year to process your appeal and, if you succeed, be appointed to the NYPD. Therefore, you should write to your investigator and request that action be taken on your file to allow yourself sufficient time to appeal if you are disqualified.

If you have questions or would like to schedule a free consultation at my Mineola office, please do not hesitate to call me at 516 248 0040.

NYPD Character Disqualification Factors

This video (click here) will help you understand the NYPD Character Disqualification Factors. What can offset background disqualifications? NYPD Character disqualifications can be appealed after receipt of NOPD or NOD notifications.

If you have been arrested you must check that you have been arrested on your APD5. Frequently, candidates give the excuse that someone told me my arrest was sealed. This will not work. If you have been arrested you must state you were arrested and when you were arrested no matter what the disposition in your court case.

If you were suspended in school you would have to say you were suspended in school. Your investigator and psychologist will ask for authorizations to find out about school disciplines, and when they get reports from your SUNY school or another college that you were suspended you will be disqualified, and will most likely be unable to have a successful appeal.

If you were terminated from a job you should say you were because when the NYPD gets your Social Security lifetime history they will see what jobs you have had and you have to explain why you were let go from certain jobs. Unfortunately, if you do not reveal these things, you will be disqualified and will not be able to explain them away. NYPD Psychological Disqualification – 2nd Interview

There has been an increase in NYPD Notice of Proposed Disqualification (NOPD) emails going out to candidates. On a good note, if you receive one of these emails the success rate following second interviews has increased recently at the NYPD Psychological Services Units located in Lefrak City in Queens, as well as the alternate location in Brooklyn.

You need to file a Disqualification Appeal in order to get this opportunity. When you receive the email, it will state that you have 30 days to appeal.

I offer free phone and ZOOM consultations for those who have questions about the appeal process and their chances based upon their history and the original psychological interview with the NYPD psychologist. If you do not appeal, your chances of winning an appeal later on in your life after another examination are greatly reduced.

The fact that there is an appeal process shows that hiring agencies can be wrong in judging character and psychological suitability of candidate. The appeal process also shows that a second interview with a senior or reviewing psychologist can find that the reason and/or rationale cited by the original interviewing NYPD psychologist was misplaced or wrong.

Also, a reviewing NYPD psychologist can find that the testing scores on instruments such as the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) and the California Psychological Inventory (CPI) have been misapplied or misused by the interviewing psychologist.
