NYPD Disqualification-Notice of Proposed Disqualification (NOPD)

The first notice you will receive when you are NYPD disqualified is a Notice of Proposed Disqualification or NOPD.  You will have 30 days to respond to this NOPD.  It is recommended that you consult with an attorney to protect your rights and make the most compelling arguments to increase your chances of getting a reversal of your NYPD disqualification.

Psychological Disqualifications

Candidates for NYPD and Nassau County Police Department and other law enforcement agencies may not be aware that the oral psychological exam can be rough.  The examiner, most often a Psychologist, can use an aggressive questioning pattern to find out if the candidate can handle confrontation. Also, the psychologist may repeat previously asked questions to see if they are are going to be met with consistent answers.

As a candidate, you may think this is unfair and that you are not being treated properly. The best thing you can do is go in with a good attitude, be prepared to be confronted during the interview and maintain your composure.

NYPD Disqualification – Get the Facts Before you Complete your APD5

Once you received your NYPD Proposed Disqualification or Disqualification, the best advice you can receive if you want to become a NYPD officer is to get your Certificates of Disposition for any arrests or summonses you may have received, and your Lifetime Abstract from New York State Department of Motor Vehicles before your complete your Applicant Processing forms.

If you guess about any arrests you may have or moving violations or summonses you had, you will receive a Notice of Proposed Disqualification (NOPD) stating that you are disqualified for “Omission of Pertinent Facts.”

The NYPD and other hiring agencies, such as NYC Department of Correction or FDNY have access to all of this information and when you submit an incomplete or inaccurate form they will compare it to their computer printouts and disqualify you.

I am a successful civil service attorney with more than 18 years of experience.  I have many clients who are currently working as Police Officers because I helped them win their disqualification appeal. I can help you too.

NYPD Disqualification

Do not be discouraged by others who were disqualified. Candidates often become disheartened with the process. Jobs that are a life career can have a lengthy and difficult application and investigation process. Law enforcement positions have thorough background checks, as well as medical and psychological exams.

Nonetheless, do not be discouraged if you are disqualified, because candidates before you have succeeded in their appeals.

IT IS CRUCIAL YOU CHECK YOUR EMAIL INBOX FOR NOPD OR NOD FROM NYPD

Candidates may have an overflowing inbox with 25, 50 or 100 emails a day, but if you miss a Notice of Proposed Disqualification (NOPD) email for a NYPD psychological disqualification or a Notice of Disqualification (NOD) and you do not respond within 30 days, your appeal may be dismissed.

Candidates may claim, “I never got it!”, but evidence can be submitted with the day, date and time the email was sent.

The best advice is to check your email inbox or spam folder very carefully EVERY DAY. Failure to do so will prevent you from getting appointed to the job after spending 40-50 hours in applicant processing.

Another tip may be to set up an email filter to have your email provider separate the emails into a separate folder.

Case dismissals are occurring more frequently, so you must pay close attention in order to prevent negative results.
