What to Do if You Receive a NYPD Disqualification

We are here to assist you if you receive a NYPD Disqualification

Feel free to call us at 516-248-0040 or email kevin@sheerinlaw.com.

There is a two step appeal process:

The first step in the appeal process is to appeal to the NYPD, who will review your appeal package. In the case of psychological disqualifications you may get a second psychological interview. If you receive a second psychological interview it is best to prepare with an expert.

The next step in the appeal process is the Notice of Disqualification (NOD) which is appealed to the NYC Civil Service Commission. The Commission holds hearings to determine if your disqualification was improper.

When you are disqualified, that disqualification will not be reversed unless you take action. Kevin has been assisting disqualified NYPD, FDNY, DSNY, NYC DOC candidates for more than 18 years. Each appeal is different, just as your history of school, work and personal relationships are different.

NYPD NOPD Disqualifications

A Notice of Proposed Disqualification (NOPD) is the first notice you will receive when you are NYPD disqualified.  You have 30 days to respond/appeal to a NOPD.  It is wise to consult with an attorney to protect your rights and make the most compelling arguments to increase your chances of getting a reversal of your NYPD disqualification.

Having been a civil service disqualification appeals attorney for more than 18 years, I have extensive knowledge on how to appeal a NYPD Disqualification. During that time I have helped many clients win their appeal. I can help you too.

If you have questions about your NYPD disqualification and you would like to schedule a free consultation, please contact me at 516 248 0040 to discuss your appeal.

NYPD Psychological Appeal – 1 Chance to Choose an Expert & Obtain NYPD Records

With more than 18 years of experience as a NYPD disqualification appeals lawyer I have helped many disqualified candidates who have received either a Notice of Proposed Disqualification (NOPD) or a final Notice of Disqualification (NOD) for psychological reasons from the NYPD.

The NOPD letter provides the candidate with an opportunity to select and hire their own psychological expert and have the NYPD psychological file sent to that expert for review and preparation of a rebuttal report. However, in order for the NYPD psychological file to be released, the disqualified candidate MUST first respond to the NOPD.

It is crucial, as a disqualified candidate, that you select a psychologist familiar with the appeals process. ONCE YOU SELECT AN EXPERT TO ASSIST YOU IN YOUR APPEAL YOU WILL MOST LIKELY BE UNABLE TO SWITCH EXPERTS LATER.

Also, selecting a psychologist that you formerly had counseling session with is a poor choice.

I have extensive experience regarding how to appeal a NYPD Disqualification. Over the years I have helped many clients win their appeal. I can help you too.

If you have questions about your NYPD psychological disqualification and you would like to schedule a free consultation, please contact me at 516 248 0040.

NYPD Hiring Process

The following steps are required in order to successfully complete the NYPD hiring process:

  • Written Entrance Exam: Candidates must pass a written examination offered by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services in order to move forward in the hiring process
  •  Medical Exam
  • Written and Oral Psychological Exams
  • Background Character Investigation
  • Job Standards Test (JST): Candidates must finish this continuous physical test in 4 minutes and 28 seconds to pass.
The JST includes: sprinting 50 feet and surmounting a barrier; climbing stairs; demonstrating the ability to physically restrain someone; running in pursuit; dragging a 175-pound mannequin 35 feet to simulate a rescue; and, pulling the trigger of an unloaded firearm multiple times
  • In addition, candidates are required to pass a drug and alcohol screening

All qualified candidates will be scheduled at the Candidate Assessment Center to complete these exams. If you have any questions, call the Candidate Assessment Center at (718) 312-4226 between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday or email CAD@NYPD.org.

Appealing a NYPD Psychological Disqualification

We continue to help candidates who have been disqualified from the NYPD.  For more than 18 years we have assisted candidates who receive letters for NYPD psychological, NYPD medical or NYPD character or background disqualification.  In each of these areas we have had notable success in appealing the grounds for disqualification.

It is crucial that you have a NYC Civil Service disqualification appeals attorney  help you in your fight to appeal your disqualification.  We frequently appear at the NYC Civil Service Commission to argue on behalf of our clients that their disqualification was improper.

NYPD psychological disqualifications and NYC Department of Corrections psychological disqualifications are often appealed.  It is important to hire someone who knows this area thoroughly, has appeared before the Civil Service Commission, knows their rules and procedures and knows how they have decided cases in the past.

I have been a civil service disqualification appeals attorney for more than 18 years. During that time I have helped many clients win their appeal. I can help you too.

If you have questions about your disqualification and would like to schedule a free consultation, please feel free to contact me at 516 248 0040.
