The New York City Civil Service Commission website can be reached by clicking NYC Civil Service Commission . The Commission hears appeals of disqualifications for New York City jobs. Most often they hear NYPD applicant disqualifications for Psychological disqualifications and Character disqualifications. Less frequently, medical disqualificaitons are heard. Hearings are conducted at the Commissions offices at 1 Centre Street New York also known as the Municipal Building. The Commissioners take testimony from experts and the disqualified candidate and make a decision shortly thereafter. Remember: you do have options. A disqualification from New York City, New York State, or county employment can be appealed. Psychological or character disqualifications may be appealed to the appropriate Civil Service Commission. Applicants for State jobs can appeal to the New York State Civil Service Commission. New York City workers can appeal to the New York City Civil Service Commission. If that appeal is denied, you may still appeal that decision by way of an Article 78 filing.
